Demo Reel

Here is a reel of showcasing some of my more recent work.

Under the Boarkwalk

More Than a Meathead previs

Watch on vimeo

I was Head of Layout for Under the Boardwalk, which has a few musical numbers. This one was our ode to hair bands of the 80's.

Under the Boarkwalk

Anyone else song

Watch on vimeo

A duet sung between the two main characters who are not in the same place but find that their hearts are aligned.

Madagascar 3

Vitaly's Flashback

Watch on vimeo

This is a flashback sequence for Madagascar 3. It’s purpose is to describe the backstory of the Vitaly character.

There was a lot that was special about this sequence. To start with, I was able to do much more exploration in shot work and storytelling than is typical. The conception of what the sequence needed to say was still very fluid when I began work on it and many shots did not have story boards. We knew that we wanted the sequence to have a unique look to make the flashback aspect stand out from the rest of the film. I was able to work with the production designer to create the unique color treatment and other visual characteristics for the sequence.

After the look was developed I had to create an entirely new approach to shot transitions for the studio in order to get the multiple layers of imagery to work within the pipeline.

Overall, this is one of the most complex both creatively and technically sequences that I have had the pleasure to work on.

MR. Peabody & Sherman

Adopting Sherman

Watch on vimeo

This sequence is in many ways the spiritual successor to the Madagascar sequence above.

I was the lead artist for this sequence and once again there was a lot that needed to be developed beyond the camera work for the sequence. We knew that we wanted a unique look for the sequence so I coordinated with the production designer and downstream departments to get that all set up and planned for while still in previs. There are very few cuts in this sequence, most shots will transition to the next shot in one way or another. A great deal of work was done to make those shot transition be visually compelling, non-repetitive, and within budget.

Temple Collapse

Watch on vimeo

This sequence was our take on a temple escape film. We wanted to emulate the feeling of films like Indian Jones and Tomb Raider in this portion of the film. My shots center around entering the room with the boats. I did all camera work, Animation, lighting, and fx for those shots.

Megamind

Finale battle

Watch on vimeo

For this sequence the previous team was given the unique apportunity to pitch out a new ending to the film that ws more exciting than what we had up to that point.

We did that through a series of charets that generated a lot of ideas that we pitched to the director. One of the key ideas that came out of those charets was to create a giant head of Megamind from thousands of his robots. I developed that idea and then create a way to represent it for previs. My shots are mostly focused around the entrance of the giant head in the sky.

Since 2003 I have been creating pre-visualizations for prominent feature film, game, music video, and commercial productions. I have been predominantly focused on feature film with about equal time spent in live action and feature animation.

I am very experienced in supervising teams of artist to produce a highly crafted and well executed product in a timely fashion. I can guide artists in taking initial concepts from scripts, story boards, or verbal pitches and transforming them into a compelling visual narrative.

Previs can be an exceptional way to further a story along. I have aided directors, cinematographers, designers, and producers in achieving their goals in many ways. Those include brainstorming story ideas, working on new project pitches, and helping to re-imagine troubled areas on a film. All while managing time and budgetary constraints.

I addition to creating engaging visuals, I am also well qualified to plan out and produce technical diagrams or data to achieve shots on set. This includes proving out the achievability of a shot with available equipment and generating motion control data on set.

I have created production pipelines from the ground up, as well as lead several technical development efforts to improve the speed and quality of my department.

Below you will find many of the titles that I have worked on. Feel free to reach out and connect.
